Soloevent.id – The grand event, 2018 International Gamelan Festival (IGF), was officially held in Solo. Thursday (08/09/2018) night, this event held the Opening Concert at Vastenburg Fortress.
At the opening ceremony, there were three composers, namely Rahayu Supanggah (Solo), I Wayan Gde Yudane (Bali), and Taufik Adam (Jakarta). The three composers appeared in the name Gamelan Nusantara Surakarta Orchestra.
The gamelan group led by Rahayu Supanggah performed two gending entitled “Kebo Giro” and “Lintang”. “‘Kebo Giro’ is usually played for respect to guests. If it is ‘Lintang’, it describes a society that uses latitude as a sign; this was done before the age of technology, “Ki Purbo Asmoro said when conveying the biography of Rahayu Supanggah.
I Wayan Gde Yudane brought a gending that tells people wherever they go, they will definitely go home. Taufik Adam presented a composition inspired by the Reba ritual from Flores.
Besides the works of three composers, the Opening Concert International Gamelan Festival 2018 was also enlivened by the gamelan group Southbank Gamelan Players (UK) and Kua Etnika (Yogyakarta).
The 2018 IGF was opened by the Minister of Education and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy. When giving a speech, Muhadjir explained that the gamelan had been proposed to be included in UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage for humanity and Indonesia. “Support is very much needed for the gamelan community so that the drafting of the nomination script runs smoothly. This shipment will be carried out in March 2019, “he said.
This year, the 2018 IGF carries the theme “Homecoming” which is intended as a place to go back and forth between groups that have a diaspora in various parts of the world.
