Soloevent.id – If you often listen to the radio or come to events in Solo, maybe you are familiar with Adia Prabowo. On Thursday (2/28/2019) at Double Decker Casual Dining, Adia became the sole speaker at Kumpul Kamu held by Prambors Solo. It discussed how to be a professional MC.

Adia says an emcee must have preparation. “Make a script containing the list of the event, the name of the guest VVIP, a short preview of the material/speaker. The script is crucial,” she explained.

“To keep the program on schedule, recognize the event material, and product knowledge,” Adia added.

Keep it short, but most importantly, keep the pace, maintain the energy and stay focused on the program. Therefore, an emcee should coordinate to the event organizer. “I will crack to you that sometimes in government events, in the last minute of the show the rundown has a change,” she explained.

As an MC you will have an organizer, who is then your client to greeting invited guests – you can start from the upscale persons. It’s different from the welcome speech which is started from the lowest position. The MC should not give a comment on it, for avoiding misinterpretations.

In Kumpul Kamu, Adia also explains how to guide formal and informal events. Handling is different. On formal events, MC must use a formal tone of voice. While in informal events, MC can be themselves.

It is the lose-lose scenario when emcees go off script with their own agendas: the speaker comes across to the attendees as irrelevant, and the attendees—who have gathered around a specific theme or purpose—are irritated. In informal events, the MC also do a lot of interaction with the audience, such as flooring (get along with the audience). Flooring was dealing with a type of audience who are not active.

Does Adia still feel nervous? “Absolutely yes, but the important work is confident and always prepare everything,” she explained.

Adia said no one can be able being MC in one day. Just do your best and take every opportunity to get it.
