Admirable Dancers in The World Dance Day

Soloevent.id – Every April 29, several countries celebrate World Dance Day, including Indonesia. One of the cities that held was Solo. In this cultural city, World Dance Day is celebrated in 24-hour.

The event held since 2006 was centered at the Indonesian Art Institute (ISI) Surakarta, and was attended by hundreds of groups from inside and outside of Solo.

Here, dance performances are presented in 24 hours nonstop. In Solo 24 Jam Menari, the dancers will dance whole day. There are many dancers which have appeared as 24-hour dancers. The following is the list taken from the last 5 years

1. Anggono Kusumo

Anggono Kusumo Wibowo from Solo appeared in the Solo 24 Jam Menari 2015. At that time, Soloevent had interviewed him after appearing in the Pendhapa ISI Surakarta. Anggono said that he interests in the world of dance since he was in elementary school.

While performing at Solo 24 Jam Menari, Anggono can train his physical endurance. Having to dance and move in 24 hours, Anggono said that his biggest challenge was sleepy. In order to support his physical performance, he consumes a lot of protein, such as eggs and honey.

2. Samsuri

This teaching staff of the Surakarta Art Institute of Indonesian Art (ISI) is one of the 24-hour dancers in 2016. His participation is a contribution to the art that has raised his name.

At that time, to improve its performance to dance for a full day, Samsuri actively exercised and also replace white rice with brown rice and not eating fried foods

3. Danang Pamungkas

He was born on December 30, 1979 from a couple of farmers who live in the Banyuanyar area, Solo. He is the youngest of six siblings.

He likes dance since childhood. During kindergarten, he practiced dolanan dance. In the 4th grade of elementary school, he also appears at the Indonesian Independence Day anniversary in his village. Then, he attended SMKI to sharpen his skill. After graduating, he continued his studies at the Indonesian Arts College (STSI) – now ISI Surakarta.

Danang creates several short dance works. In 2007, he was one of the selected 10 Indonesian choreographers who participated in the choreography workshop directed by Lin Hwai-min, a choreographer from Taiwan.

Danang Pamungkas enlivened the Solo 24-Hour Solo in 2017. At that time, he presented several repertoires of his work.

4. Wirastuti “Tutut” Susilaningtyas

This woman who graduated from the Indonesian Institute of Art (ISI) Surakarta managed to conquer the dancing challenge for 24 hours at Solo 24 Jam Menari in 2018. For her, dancing has become a habit. As a 24-hour dancer, Tutut claimed to practice every day.

The woman who dances since the age of 9, already shows her skill through the world. Tutut also joined Solo Dance Studio under the guidance of Eko Supriyanto, an Indonesian choreographer who was once a dancer in the international diva Madonna.

Dancing is not just moving the body, but also one way to read the world for her.

5. Sri Anjani Savitri

The girl from Bandung participated in enlivening the Solo 24 Jam Menari in 2018. At that time Anjani became the main icon aka 24 hour dancer with 2 other fellow dancers, Wirastuti Susilanigtyas (Solo) and Agatha Irena Praditya (Yogyakarta).

The woman who studied at the Department of Dance of the Indonesian Cultural Arts Institute (ISBI) Bandung participated in several workshops on dance programs at home and abroad. He also participated as the 7th Asian Yoouth filler and workshop instructor in 2017. Anjani has several dance works, including Badut (2011), Appa (2015), and Adhidaiva (2017)
