Soloevent.id – The name of Melati Suryodarmo seems familiar to art lovers. The daughter of Solo senior dancer, Suprapto Suryodarmo, was famous for her performance art works that often explored the body.

Melati Suryodarmo was born in 1969 in Solo. She began her education at the Department of International Relations at Padjajaran University. She studied art and performance at Hochchule fuer Bildende Kuenste (HBK), Braunschweig, Germany. Melati studied with Anzu Furukawa from Japan regarding body choreography and research for the creation of works.

For Melati, the human body is an important source of inspiration for her works. She rewards the human body without seeing the form, but rather assesses it through body aesthetics that can be displayed by anyone and at any time. When performing, the body is used as a medium for speech.
